I’ve been a 1and1 “major customer” (over 500 domains), since 2007/2008
They are one of the WORST COMPANIES on the earth.
I absolutely HATE dealing with them.
They are a complete and TOTAL RIP OFF.
Cumulatively, I have spent at least 1,000 hours on the phone with them and have records of 600+ emails back and forth.
I can tell you their billing practices are SLOPPY at best, deceptive, intentionally complex and wrought with errors and overcharges.
Then, they just LOVE sending accounts to “collections agencies” even if YOU’RE CURRENT with them!
Not to mention, their website, ironically, is clumsy, S—L—O—-W and very very very often crashes on me when I’m trying to update my settings, check on invoices etc.]]>
My plan was to switch my 2 domains to domain only and try their new “MyWebsite” offer on another…
We shall see where this leads to…

I see that you’re the latest to post a comment here, any news on your issue? could you share the emails of both VPs you have?
I am having loads of trouble with 1&1.
it started with me wanting to cancel my hosting but keep my Domain Names. I contacted support, and I was pointed to the cancellation website cancel.1and1.com
I went through the procedure, to discover later that all my Domain Names disappeared. When I called the support, I was told I should have downgraded my package instead of cancelling it. I explained that they, them selves so called technical support, advised me to go through the cancellation website. Any way, they assured me to retrieve all my Domain Names. a few days later, and after several email, and phone calls, I was told to be patient! then I received an email with my Domain Names, and transfer codes. When I rang back to say that I cannot transfer the domains because my account is deleted, they asked me to open a new free package that is Instant Domain. I went through all the steps they provided, and there was no way to get this free package. You have to buy a new domain name to avail of the free package. Which I did!!!!
I then called to have my domains transferred to the new package, and they talked me through doing it. When I started the first transfer, I was asked on the screen to agree to a $9.99 transfer fee. When I asked the agent (his name is Nick) what’s that about, and that I will not be paying that, he assured me that this fee doesn’t apply in my case. I reiterated the question, and again he assured me that I wont be charged for that! And guess what!!! 3 days later I receive a bill of over $380 for domain transfers.
I since was dealing with their billing and complaints departments, and I can’t get any where. They are insisting on me paying the bill, even though it’s their fault that I was dragged into these muddy waters.
If anyone can help with an email address or a phone number, I would much appreciate it!
I worked on my site for hundreds of hours, doing photoshop work, uploading hundreds of images etc. As I was about to be done designing my site and happy to be done with hundreds of hours of work, everything just disappeared!!!! I called tech support wondering what happened. They told me they were switching servers and they lost all my work. I couldnt believe it.
I spoke with a tech support supervisor named Ian Morris and he assured me that this was all 1&1′s fault and I would be given “at least a year of free service. I was also told IAN or someone else would fix my site for me if I just send them all my info and photos. Ian told me he’d get back to me and he gave me his personal e-mail address. He told me by the end of the day my site would be restored to where it was when I was finished with all my hard work.
A day went by and no call, no e-mail, and no site fix. I called again and talked to ian, he assured me this will be taken care of by the end of the day. Again, no call, no e-mail, no site fix.
I called AGAIN the next day and talked to another tech rep named Adrian who told me “I’ll work on the site for you like it’s my own” “i’ll get back to you at 5:00 est to let you know the progress I’ve made” Of course, no call. This has been going on for 8 straight days and enough is enough already. It is absolutely impossible at this point to get in touch with ANY of the supervisors over there. It’s almost like trying to get in touch with the President of the USA. I keep getting transferred, put on hold, told the supervisors are busy and I have to hold another 15 minutes etc. I’ve never been treated this way by any company in my 43 years of living. It’s one thing to have someone tell me, “nope, we cant help you” and another thing to be told for 7 or 8 days “we can help you, and we will help you immediately” and then have nothing get done. I don’t enjoy being LIED to.
I’ve never even so much as asked to talk to a manager at a restaurant because I was unhappy for whatever reason, but this is absolutely ridiculous. I’m paying for services that these people arent even giving me and they plain and simply dont care. I’ve e-mails two VP’s today and I bet I get no response whatsoever. Worst experience of my life regarding another company and how they’re treating me.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WITH EVERYONES COMPLAINTS AND IF ANYTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT THIS!!!
If anyone actually talks to a high level manager at this company, and that manager actually helps them, please post their phone number on this forum.
Until there is more disclosure, file complaints at both the PA Attorney Generals office at: http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/consumers.aspx?id=451; and at the Better Business Bureau, at https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started.
Then take a look at the BBB’s rating they give 1&1, a B! My Question, how can they give a company with 806 closed complaints a B rating?
Please file the complaints, as I will be contacting the local DC media regarding the BBB’s rating of them, will make a good investigative journalism piece.
The PA’s Office Of Attorney General will respond before the BBB, but hang in there as the BBB will have some explaining to do.]]>

So we decided to dispute the charge with the credit card company (VISA) on September 7th. So today we received a blackmail email from 1and1 that if we dont sign a form they attached to authorize the original charge of $17.98 plus an additional $20 charge back fee they will lock our account and I guess take over all of our domains. As of now we don’t have access to any of the domains.
I called Bank of America VISA they said they have never heard of a business doing this sort of blackmail but could not advise me what to do and told me to seek a lawyer instead.
After doing some research I was told to make a complaint with ICANN and we did, so we are waiting for a reply back.
Please let me know if this is legal and/or the right way of handling this situation.
If anyone reading this is a lawyer and want’s to get involved please get a hold of us by this form: http://www.aatechdesign.com/contact.html
Any other ideas you might have would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.]]>
Was happy for 3 years. Then I had a problem with a domain not pointing properly. Nightmare of lack of tech support. What a waste of time.
I’m starting to transfer my domains to another registrar now. Goodbye 1and1.
What has to happen, I think, is an attorney general inquiry must be done on 1and1 billing practices, and what I feel is false/misleading marketing 1&1 corporate headquarters marketing team.
I mean, They are literally the worst company I’ve ever dealt with. Worse that my cell phone provider, worse than my mechanic, and they are horrible.]]>

What a disaster this company is.]]>
I write a flaming letter to their so called support, get a reply with all this “we’re going to get to the bottom of this” blah…blah. I just now issued an ultimatum, that if we don’t get an adequate response today by 3pm…we are filing a complaint with ICANN, but many of you above have suggested some other good organizations with which to file complaints.
Truthfully, I think I much prefer to use my skills in SEO and Internet marketing to make sure anyone thinking of doing business with them hears about out stories first.
To anyone considering using 1&1 Hosting/1and1 Hosting/ One and One Hosting/ (good you’ve found us here) DONT! They have English speaking sales people, but once they get your contract, you will deal with a tech support team who reads a script and barely speaks English.]]>
